“Queerly Loved” is the theme of this sketchbook artist book from September to October of 2024. I hand bind my sketchbooks, usually in this long stitch binding style I learned from Keith A. Smith’s Nonadhesive Binding Vol. I: Binding Without Paste or Glue. The outside of the cover was created from hand screenprinted fabric and a reverse appliquรฉ letterpress printed text from wood type borrowed from the local graphic design firm. This fabric was glued to an old cereal box, and the inside was covered with my hospital gown from the premature birth of my youngest child right when the world was locking down for the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. The interior is filled with printed color proofs, misprints, and other studio ephemera from my day job as a printmaking professor and artist.
