Gumbo is a collaborative book made by members of the international artist collective Expanded Draught. Fiber materials were sent to St. Louis artist Megan Singleton, who handmade paper from the collected fibers and returned it to the artists. Artists worked on the paper, returning it to St. Louis where Singleton bound a book and presented an exhibition of the work at the non profit Pianos for People.
The book was also requested by the Center for Book Arts in NYC for the Pulp as Portal: Socially Engaged Hand Papermaking exhibition, curated by Jessica Cochran, which itself was an extension of the broad survey Social Paper, co-curated by Jessica Cochran and Melissa Potter.
